@Chung: That’s a cool way of construction. Thank you for that. I couldn’t help but get
a little frustrated at the fact that my books and other lessons wouldn’t explain how to say one is of mixed ancestry, is living in a country not of their origin, and so on. Okay, that makes. I’ve found the (used) exercise book for around $12 on Amazon (I sent an e-mail to the seller to make sure it’s indeed the Exercise book and not something else; that’s how I accidentally bought the Textbook in the first place). The Cds are outrageously priced everywhere I’ve looked, so that’s out of the question. Should I go ahead and buy the exercise book? @caem_imt: Thanks for the help! And okay, that makes sense, about making them neutral. @sans-serif: Cool, that makes sense. Thanks for the input! And don’t worry, I love chocolate milk (preferred drink for breakfast). If you intend to use the course, I don't see why you wouldn't get the exercise book - especially if it's only $12 since there are worse ways to spend your money. It's too bad though that the CDs are that expensive.

Finnish I began reading one of the children's books I have: Jussi ja Kärpänen. Wow, so many new words for such a short book. I did a couple of flashcards on a new Anki deck on some of the words, and tomorrow I'll do more. I don't want to overwhelm myself with a children's book. On that note, I'm a bit confused one one of the words: näet, which according to wikitionary, it's an interjection. It apparently means "you see, indeed", but the placement in the sentence seems weird to me. + Hän on näet (past participle). Would anybody have any samples with näet? I also encountered the -hän particle in the book, which was pretty cool. I went over my Anki vocab decks tonight. Pretty smooth. It's nice to see that you are studying Finnish. :) A few examples of the word "näet" (literally "you see") that can be used in the same way as in English: Hän on näet lääkäri. = You see, s/he's a doctor. Kuten näet, se on vaikeaa. / Se on näet vaikeaa. = As you can see, it's difficult. Sinä näet talon. = You see a/the house. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Finals are over with, and I can finally start studying again. I've actually been going
through some of the first lessons on Finnish for Foreigners with the workbook and exercise book, but that's been for review's sake. Now with all of this free time during the holidays I plan on studying more seriously again. Look out for updates! In other news, I've joined Team jäŋe / *ledús with Finnish for TAC 2013, my first TAC.
