Very interesting post, Expugnator. I didn't know that about the word mosquiteiro. Maybe
we got it from Dutch? Knowing that in the past they have ruled the city of Recife/PE for
a while...

When did you go to Curaçao?

> There is this feeling that if I can get through Mandarin, Georgian and Russian, I can
learn other languages and that will be actually easier.

I've had the same feeling about Russian and I fully agree with you: one should study the
languages one likes rather than those that are just "easier"

I think mosquiteiro comes from plain derivation in Portuguese. You get mosquito + the
suffix -eiro, which is 'place of', or 'tool for', somehow. Chuveiro, banheiro etc.

I went to Curaçao last September. I also went to Aruba. I highly recommend both islands,
they complement each other. Check the final pages of my
Papiamento
Log
for more info, mostly at the final pages.

I've just watched my first Chinese film ever. It's called Truth or Dare (can't find the
Chinese name) and it had both Chinese and English subtitles. It's a 2013 flm. I could
follow a lot from the Chinese only (considering written and spoken), I really only needed
the English for the longer sentences, because they go by too fast.

Pour le français:

"7 heures et demie" (heure est féminin, et on ne peut pas dire juste "7 et demie").
"Il faut encore que..." ("still". Là où tu as placé le "encore" voudrait dire "We need to wait for my mother to 'bring again' the chicken).
"fourchette" => a tool used to eat. fource = tool used to carry loads of straw..
