Excellent post by Cavesa and I agree with everything she wrote.

When you understand native materials, you can read books you wouldn't read otherwise, listen to podcasts you wouldn't if not for your knowledge, watch movies about which you wouldn't even know because few foreign things penetrate the English speaking world. There's a wealth of fantastic things for you to find!

Saves time looking things up.
