Tuscany, and in particular Florence / Firenze, may be perfect for us from what I have read so far. Still considering whether to include Rome on this trip. May be dependent on how many of the extended kinfolk may be going. Characterizing my past tangles with French to constitute a "background" is exceedingly generous of you! I am actually finding more interference from the very modest amount of Spanish I studied earlier this year: The phrase "Come stai" invariably comes out in the following manner: "Como ... er, dang, nope... I've written "et" in Italian a few times, and written "e" in French more than a few times...
