This is my study plan for learning German from scratch to B2 in nine months, please
tell me how I can improve it so that it is close to perfect.
- Complete the **Michel Thomas audio course to completion (for my Speaking)
- Follow the Deutsche Interaktiv course from A1 to B2 on the Deutsche Welle
website (so that I will be able to pass the Goethe exams from A1 to B2)
- Use anki to learn and memorize a good bit of vocabulary and use a dictionary
- Sign up for a profile on italki (to find a language partner)
- Ask any questions and doubts I have on this forum and return the favor by
answering questions myself as well
Later on I will start watching German TV shows/movies, listening to German
radio/podcasts and reading German books/newspapers.
I also don't want to keep changing my routine and would rather stick with it upto a
considerable period in time so if you think I should change my above plan please
tell me now!
I know that there are obviously so many resources for learning German and so many ways
that I can go about it but I don't want to spend my entire nine months cycling through
all the different routes and ways and that is why I am thinking of sticking to the
above plan. So if you think I can improve it in any way please tell me!
###I plan to do my A1 exam at the Goethe center in 14 days.###
**I know that most people on this forum would probably prefer Assimil over Michel
Thomas but I have already started using MT and I really like it. I would consider
using Assimil instead, if any of you have any solid reason for me to.

Hi, I can bring you my modest two cents. And keep in mind that everyone learns
differently.
Assimil brings much further (up to B2, but at least A2, while with Michel Thomas
you're around A1) and with Michel Thomas you don't learn how to read and write. Also,
Assimil gives you much better understanding of the language as it's used by natives.
Both are not enough as a standalone resource, but I see that you plan to use the
Deutsche Welle so should be ok.
From my past experience studying vocabulary only through SRS is not very helpful. You
can maybe, to quickly bootstrap one language, take a list of the 200 highest frequency
words and learn them in one day, before to start studying the language. But it's maybe
too late for this. Also, it's useful to boostrap a context based vocabulary (for
example, you like cars and you want to learn all the car related vocabulary in one
day). In any case, after two-four weeks you have words that you pick always right and
words that you can't remember. Remove all the familiar words and study only the ones
that are really difficult for you to remember.
Start to read as soon as possible. If you have some passion with a topic with whom
you're familiar with, you will get a lot out of it because you can get the meaning of
many words that you don't know yet.
Oh, and start to have skype conversations as soon as you're able to talk about even
the most basic topics, like the weather and where do you want to go for holydays.
Those are my two cents.
Good luck with your German journey!

I have recently begun working on German as well, and have found the videos on
http://www.slowgerman.com/ quite useful. I suggest you try it ;)
