Hi!
I'm new to the forum and I enjoy reading lots of topics here. I want to learn language because i think it's something quite interesting and will help me improve my personal and professional life. I'm bilingual, having learned portuguese and guinean creole while growing up. Started to study English when I was 10 years old and studied it for at least 5 years on and off in different schools for the past 14 years. Still not fluent (damn!). Level B2 I think, but mainly because i didn't study with consistency all these years.
Decided to learn Spanish because it's a nice language and quite easy for people which native language is portuguese and pretty important in today's business.
I started to study in 2010, for about 10 months, in a specialized language school in my city. Had to quit because I ran out of money. In 2012, started again and studied for about 3 months with Teach Yourself Spanish (without the audio files).
Because it is so similar to portuguese, it is common for us brazilians to make A LOT of mistakes. We call that Portuñol... lol.
I can understand the language pretty well because of the cognates, but producing it is a little more difficult.
Because I needed some motivation, I've decided to join the 6 weeks challenge and I've recorded an audio today with the purpose to compare it with an audio that I will record after the challenge. Here's the link:
http://yourlisten.com/ijsn/primer-audio-en-espanol-01nov14
Method:
Intensive listening to Show Time Spanish (coffe break's Spanish intermediate lessons)
Extensive reading+listening to audiobooks
I will focus mainly on these activities but I might eventually do some shadowing when L-R.
I don't really know what to achieve after the challenge, so I'll just see where it will take me to.

Hello there! Welcome to the forum. As you probably know from browsing the forum, there are FREE language programs from FSI. Here is the link for that: http://www.fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php
You can also try out Notes in Spanish, which has levels from beginning to advanced. The podcast is free on iTunes, but the transcripts are not.

Xenops, thanks for the tip. I tried to use FSI this past thursday. It's clear that it is an excellent program, but it's kind of boring so if continue, i'll probably quit. It is a pity because i think i would reach C1 only with it, since portuguese and Spanish are so similar.
I think I'll need to change my method. I wanted to read The Secret accompanied by the unabridged audiobook but I just can't find the audio.
It is quite difficult for me to listen to podcasts, getting distracted all the time. Notes in Spanish and Spanish Podcast are good, I would like to do some intensive listening with them.
6 Weeks Challenge
- extensive reading using ReadLang
- intensive listening with podcasts (AJ Hoge's deep learning method)
- two and a half men dubbed without subtitles

Today, I managed to dedicate 50 minutes to Spanish.
Listened to Notes in Spanish, episode 1, intermediate 3 times
Watched s01e01 of two and a half men dubbed in Spanish without subtitles.
I feel dumb. After so many years studying English, my comprehension of Spanish is almost the same... lol. Sad but true.
