Ultimate German + FSI German = B2 level ? | ||

Hi guys :) ..
Please I want to ask, do you think that Ultimate German ( Basic, intermediate + advanced ) and FSI German can take me to B2 level ? If not, what to add ? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

No course can get you to B2 level, only hours and hours of hard work can do that. Please don't forget that. But having said that...
I don't know much about Ultimate German, but FSI is awesome. Even the fact that the audio is crap is helpful, because it gets you straining to hear and working really hard at it. Besides those courses, there is just so much free stuff on Deutsche Welle, all arranged by level. http://www.dw.de/learn-german/german-courses/s-2547 My personal favourite course was Radio D. It focuses on having the reader listen for environmental cues, and trying to understand the gist of a conversation. It is very well produced and easy to listen to. It's not a full-blown course, but an excellent supplement. It didn't exist when I was working on German, but the Audiotrainer looks really good. 100 lessons with a worksheet and 4 minute audio clip, covering key areas of vocabulary such as Dates, Leisure Activities, Modal Verbs, etc. 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Deutsche Welle is by far the best German course I've seen so far, starting with the Deutsche - Warum nicht? course and then going ahead for the others.
Bad thing is that I never finished it, just went about halfway the 1st series (because of university, exams, etc.), but I loved it. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I also used "Radio D" and "Deutsche-Warum Nicht?" from Deutsche Welle. They were both great. I recommend DW to anyone starting out in German as a supplement to a standard course like FSI, Teach Yourself, Living Language, etc.
Back to your original question, FSI is a very lengthy, intensive, and fairly tough course to make it all the way through, but if you do, and you supplement with something like DW and some speaking practice with native or advanced speakers, you will be well on your way to B2. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Thank you very much BarronBill and Fabriciocarraro .. Your feedback about DW website is really helpful .. I am going to start with Radio D now , and I will see how it will go with me .. Ultimate German course is the old version of Living Language complete course and it claims that it is equivelant to TWO full years of college-level study ! Any course that claims B2 is just overrating, that's for sure.
I can say OK for B1, but B2 is a level where you must be able to talk about whatever you want, quite fluently, without being limited to 2000 or 2500 total word count that most language courses aim. If you want B2, I think first you must absorb ultimate German, FSI, or anything, and then focus on Lagune, Themen, em neu, Ziel series in order to fulfil your vocab gap. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

No textbook can do that. They can at most cover the necessary grammar, but the road to fluency is paved with a lot of exposure and use. A textbook doesn't give you that. 1 person has voted this message useful |
