Hello. May I ask some questions?

Wir sind auf Hochzeitsreise. Wir sind neu hier. Ehemann kann nicht essen Fleisch, aber liebt Meeresfrüchte und Gemüse. Ehefrau liebt Fleisch, Meeresfrüchte, stark gewürzte Speisen. Empfehlen Sie etwas für uns, bitte. Italian Ciao. Siamo in luna di miele. Siamo di nuovo da qui. Marito non può mangiare carne, ma ama i frutti di mare e verdure. It's understandable but not totally correct and seafoods=mořské plody. And actually, it's
much better than what I'd expect from googletranslator. Totally correct would be: Dobrý den, jsme zde na líbánkách. Jsme tu noví. Manžel nemůže jíst maso, ale miluje zeleninu a mořské plody. The only other problem that I see with giving them phrases like these is that there's no follow-up to these questions. For example, if your brother-in-law and sister use the phrase asking for recommended dishes sufficiently well, the wait staff may very well respond in Czech, German or Italian. Would they know for example that typical vegetarian dishes in Czech Republic are smažený sýr "fried cheese" or houbová polévka "mushroom soup" or could they even understand those terms and similar on hearing alone?
They may need some pictures and sign language for these interactions or even better they could memorize phrases for ordering a handful of dishes in each of these languages. It's a pain, but there's something missing when people can put together an open-ended question in a foreign language, but not have a clue what the answer will be. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
