	Hoi Fasulye! Ja, dat was echt jammer dat we elkaar niet konden in Düsseldorf ontmoeten. Maar ik ben zeker dat het een andere keer zal mogelijk zin. Ik ben zeker niet de laatste keer in je buurt geweest. Eerlijk gezegd, ik werk veel grager 60 uren per week voor mij als 40 uren per week voor een baas! De vrijheid die je in een zelfstandige baan hebt is voor mij de allergrootste voordeel. Ja, het is zeker zeer ambitieus een C1-Niveau in het Nederlands willen te bereiken (ook in het Italiaans) en ik weet dat ik dit doel zeker niet dit jaar zal bereiken, maar ik vindt het een goede motivatie. Heb je wat recommandaties voor mij voor het Nederlands? Boeken om de taalexamen voor te bereiden of goede literatuur? Ik wil dit jaar ook wat meer in het Nederlands lezen om mijn woordenschat te vergroten (en omdat ik heel graag lees), maar ik ken niet vele Nederlandse of Belgische schrijvers. Ik heb een paar boeken van Cees Nooteboom gekocht omdat ik graag reisliteratuur lees en een vriendin hebt me 'Max Havelaar' gegeven. Portugees is een leuke taal en een belangrijke taal in Luxemburg, want hier vele Portugezen leven. Ik ken vele Portugezen met wie ik kan spreken, dat zal zeker en grote hulp zin. 	NL: Met Italiaanse examens heb ik nog geen ervaring. Je schrijft overigens fouteloos Nederlands hier, maar voor zo'n examen moet je niet alleen een hoog taalnivo hebben, maar ook met de specifieke examensopgaven vertrouwd zijn. Voor het Nederlands kun je examen in Vlaanderen of in Nederland afleggen, dus ik weet niet waarvoor je wilt kiezen. Ik heb mijn examen in Nijmegen in Gelderland afgelegd. Dat examen van mij heeft helemaal niets met literaire teksten van doen gehad, daarvoor zou het een betere voorbereiding kunnen zijn om op het internet regelmatig de Nederlandse pers te lezen. Ik heb nog nooit Nederlandse literatuur gelezen, dus ik ken de bekende Nederlandse schrijvers alleen bij naam. Mocht jij voor een examen in Nederland (in plaats van Vlaanderen) kiezen zou ik je aanbevelen mock exams bij het CITO (dat is het examensinstituut in Nederland) te bestellen (waarin het lezen, spreken, schrijven en luisteren getest wordt) en die heel goed te bestuderen. Dus mijn tip voor Nederland: Nieuwsuitzendingen op het internet beluisteren (TV - nieuws van de NOS) en de bekende Nederlandse kranten lezen (De Volkskrant, NRC Handelsblad, Trouw of De Standaard voor België). 	Hello again my dear neglected language learning log. In January, I participated in the Tadoku reading challenge with Italian and Dutch. I managed to read 380 pages, 2 books in Italian, Racconti romani by Alberto Moravia and Un posto nel mondo by Fabio Volo and 1 book in Dutch, Paradijs verloren by Cees Nooteboom. So, once again, I didn't roach my goal (500 pages), but I do feel more comfortable reading in both languages by now. I'm supposed to be participating in the 6 Week Challenge with Indonesian right now, which started 17 days ago and I still haven't been able to do anything, as my workload is absolutely crazy right now :-( Really frustrating. I should be able to do a couple of hours this weekend though and I'll try to continue as much as possible during the next couple of weeks. The good news is that I'll have some free time in March, so I'll make up for the time lost. I'll spend a few days in Portugal, so I'm really tempted to study some Portuguese, which is one of the next languages I want to take up anyway. 	It's 6 Week Challenge time again! Since I wasn't able to work on Indonesian for the last challenge in February as planned, I signed up with Indonesian again and this time, I am definitely going to do 40-60 hours intensive study and more if I can to make up for that. I will probably be traveling through Asia for at least 4 weeks in June and Indonesia is definitely on the list of places to go, so that adds additional motivation. It would be really cool to try my basic Indonesian on native speakers. The trip isn't 100% sure yet, so fingers crossed! I stocked up on Portuguese books during the few days I spend in Porto (really nice city) in March. I understand a great deal of written Portuguese (thanks to Spanish) and could probably read books without a dictionary, but spoken Portuguese is a different matter altogether. I'm playing with the idea of signing up for an online course with Instituto Camoes in September. As to Italian, I was going to take a shot at CELI 4 (C1 level) in June, but if the trip to Asia materializes, I would have to postpone that until the next session in November. Dutch is somewhat in the background at the moment, though I got to spend a few days in Belgium and the Netherlands in early April and used it a tiny bit (buying tickets, ordering in restaurants, etc.). Funny moment when I ordered a "koffie verkeerd" (like a latte macchiato) and the waitress brought me vanilla ice-cream ("coupe vanille"). I know my Dutch pronunciation certainly isn't great, but it really can't be THAT bad!! Oh well... I also bought some Dutch books (Fnac in Brussels is one of my favorite bookstores) and watched TV in Dutch every night (listening comprehension is definitely getting better). So, priority for the next 6 weeks: Indonesian! After that, Italian to prepare for CELI 4 in November, Dutch and maybe some Portuguese on the side starting September. 1 person has voted this message useful

	Indonesian I'm back from a great 5-week trip through Asia. I've been to Japan (trying hard to resist the temptation to start learning Japanese, but I really have too many languages on my plate right now already, so Japanese will have to wait for at least a few years), the Philippines and Indonesia. I couldn't update my stats for the 6 Week Challenge Indonesian due to lack of reliable Internet connections, but I did work as much as possible on Indonesian while in Indonesia. I took my Assimil with me and worked through lessons 1-17 and generally just tried to pick up as much as possible by reading everything I could get my hands on and watching American TV series with Indonesian subtitles (very useful). I even managed to successfully haggle over the price of a becak (rickshaw) ride with my basic broken Indonesian. The trip definitely motivated me to keep learning Indonesian to a solid level, so it will be my main focus at least until the end of the year. I intend to finish Assimil, Teach Yourself and Standard Indonesian Made Simple this year and make as much progress in Indonesian as possible by the end of the year. I'll do Indonesian again for the next 6 week challenge. I found that Universitas Terbuka (Indonesian Open University) offers an online course at elementary, intermediate and advanced level. I don't know yet when the next course will start, but I'm definitely considering it. Italian Since I wasn't around in June, I plan to sit the CELI 4 exam in November. I'll mainly prepare by reading, reading, reading, brushing up on grammar, finishing Assimil Perfectionnement and getting some listening and reading practice. Dutch Since I decided to make Indonesian my main focus for now, I will continue to work on Dutch slowly, at least once a week though. I want to finish Assimil, start Assimil Perfectionnement and read a few books in Dutch by the end of the year. 	First of all, happy new year to everyone! It's time to do a review and look ahead to the new year: Indonesian I finished the online elementary Indonesian course at Universitas Terbuka in December. I haven't received the exam results yet, but I'm pretty confident that I passed, because it wasn't really that difficult. I found the course itself to be quite mediocre with lots of very frustrating technical glitches. I hope that they improve on that in future editions. I'm a bit disappointed by the course, found the content quite lacking, wouldn't recommend it and definitely won't sign up for the next level. In the future, for Indonesian, I'll stick to Assimil, Teach Yourself and Internet resources like www.indonesian-online.com which is pretty good. In parallel to the online course, I have continued to work with Teach Yourself and Anki and overall I'm quite happy with the progress I made in Indonesian in 2013. Italian I've been trying to sit the CELI 4 exam twice this year and something got in the way on both occasions. In June this year, I was traveling and in November I fell ill and had to cancel the day before the exam. Next try in June 2013! I'll mainly focus on reading (just registered for this month's Tadoku challenge - so happy it's back - and aim for 500 pages this month) and need to practice for the oral exam. Dutch Slow progress in 2012, so I'll try to work more on it in 2013 and read more in Dutch. I'll also look into the possibility of sitting an official exam in Belgium or the Netherlands later in the year. So, these three languages will be my main focus for 2013. I'm considering doing some Esperanto again, maybe a six-week challenge over the summer. And then, the plan is to start Portuguese in September with Assimil, Teach Yourself and maybe the Instituto Camoes' online course (hoping that it will be better than the Indonesian one). Does that sound like I have too much on my plate? Yes, definitely, but I'm not happy with the slow progress I made in 2012 because I was busy with too many other things, so I want to make languages a priority again in 2013.
