This will be a multilingual log (mostly in English and German but I’ll also try to
write in Spanish and in Icelandic from time to time). I want to study translation in Heidelberg as an exchange student in 2015-2016, but first I have to pass the TestDAF with a minimum of 4 in all four sections (that corresponds to C1, if I’m not mistaken). Heidelberg University won’t settle for anything less. This is a very ambitious goal as I’ve only been learning German since February 2013 and I don’t live in Germany. I realize I may not get the result I’m hoping for, but I’m sure I’ll greatly improve my German while preparing for the exam, whether I pass it or not. I should take the TestDAF in October/November 2014. On May 7, I’ll be going to Spain to do the Camino de Santiago (The Camino del Norte, from Irún to Santiago, to be more precise). I look forward to speaking not only Spanish there, but also German (I’ve heard the Camino is very popular among Germans) and, if I’m very lucky, some Icelandic too. People from all around the world come to Spain to do the Camino de Santiago and most of them are eager to speak with other pilgrims. So stay tuned if you want to learn more about the Camino de Santiago from a language enthusiast’s perspective or if you want to see how I get ready for the TestDAF. I’ll try to write my future posts mainly in German in order to practice for the written part of the exam. Today, I’ll just translate what I’ve already written in English (corrections are more than welcome!). ------------------------------- Ich will in den Jahren 2015-2016 Übersetzung an der Universität Heidelberg studieren (als Austauschstudent), aber ich muss vorher den TestDAF in allen Teilprüfungen mindestens mit dem Ergebnis 4 (das entspricht C1, wenn ich mich nicht irre) ablegen. Die Universität Heidelberg wird Studenten, die ein schwächeres Ergebnis bekommen haben, nicht akzeptieren. Das Ziel, das ich mich gesetzt habe, ist sehr ehrgeizig, da ich Deutsch erst seit Februar 2013 lerne. Ich wohne auch nicht in Deutschland. Ich verstehe, dass ich den TestDAF nicht unbedingt erfolgreich ablegen werde, aber ich bin ganz sicher, dass ich meine Deutschkenntnisse sowieso sehr viel verbessern werde wenn ich mich auf diese Prüfung vorbereite. Ich werde die Prüfung im Oktober oder November 2014 bestehen. Am 7. Mai werde ich nach Spanien reisen um den Jakobsweg zu gehen (bzw. den Küstenweg, von Irún bis Santiago). Ich freue mich darauf, dort nicht nur Spanisch zu sprechen, sondern auch Deutsch (Ich habe gehört, dass der Jakobsweg sehr beliebt bei den Deutschen sei) und ein bisschen Isländisch (wenn ich viel Glück habe). Leute aus aller Welt kommen nach Spanien um den Jakobsweg zu gehen und die meisten davon freuen sich darüber, sich mit anderen Pilgern auszutauschen.
