I've been listening a lot to Joan Baez lately and one thing that I love about her, apart from her voice of course, is that she has sung and recorded songs in many different languages, including languages she doesn't speak! As far as I know, she speaks English and Spanish only.

So I thought it would be interesting to have a thread about singers who sing in 3 or more languages (I think 2 is quite common as many non-native English speakers sing in their native language + English, many Canadians sing in both English and French, many Italian singers record their albums in Spanish for Spain and Latin America, etc.).

So I'll start with Joan Baez (with links to Youtube videos):
English: Diamonds and rust (my favorite)
Spanish: No nos moverán
Italian: La canzone di Marinella
French: Pauvre Rutebeuf (originally by Léo Ferré)
German: Sag mir wo die Blumen sind (German version of Where have all the flowers gone)
Portuguese: Te Ador & Te Manha
Polish: Piosenka dla córki
Basque: Txoria Txori
I absolutely love this one. It sounds so beautiful, it makes me want to learn Basque!

Others I can think of who have sung and recorded in many languages are Nana Mouskouri, Dalida (who also both spoke quite a few) and Sarah Brightman. Who else?

In the early 60's, it was fairly common for pop singers to record versions of their songs in other languages. Even The Beatles issued a couple of singles in German (Sie liebt dich, Komm geb mir deine Hand).

I am assuming this is for pop singers. Classical musicians sing in multiple languages all the time as just a standard part of what they do. In my own recitals I've done English, French, German, Russian, Latin, Hebrew, Finnish, and possibly others.
