I just read one book at a time. Whatever language doesn't matter.

I read one book at a time. I don't like how slow my progress goes if I'm reading multiple books. As with languages.

I always read multiple books at the same time. I can't help myself, even in my native language.

I tried reading one book at a time. It never worked out. Now, I'm always reading several books at the same time.

I read one book at the time only if the book is so fascinating and interesting that I just can't let go of it, or possibly if it is a complicated intrigue where putting it away for some time to read something else could mean that I forget some essential details.
If not, I prefer to read several books at the same time, and preferably different genres and in different languages. Right now, for instance I am reading:
- Danubio, by Claudio Magris, in Italian
- Pale blue dot, by Carl Sagan, in English
- Berlin Gothic 5: Nachts bei Max, by Jonas Winner, in German.
Of course, I did not start all three at the same time. I'm almost done with Sagan, in the middle of Berliin Gothic and just read the first chapter of Danubio.
The next book on my list is in Norwegian, called "Fyrsten" (the Prince) by Henrik Langeland.

I suspect that most of us have the same approach with books as with language courses. I am a person who starts a lot of courses/books, flits to others, goes back to others. Eventually I finish some, others I never look at again.

Well, that one is an extreme (thanks, Serpent. Now I feel like a normal person :-D ), but I usually read several books at once too, no matter the languages. I just grab what I feel like continuing with and I keep reading as long as I wish before switching. The only thing breaking the rhytm are the fees for late returns in the libraries.
