I came to this site a few days ago via a link from the Language Learning Reddit wiki. My previous history of language learning consists mostly of failures. I had a total of 3 Spanish classes in college, and made self-study attempts at German and Esperanto with LiveMocha. Within the last year, a group at my work decided to meet after-hours to study French, and I decided to give language learning another go. Fast forward to the beginning of 2014, when I decided that I was going to seriously devote some time and effort towards learning a language this year. I decided to stick with French, since the group was still meeting at the time. I figured my biggest problem was that I couldn't remember the vocabulary. Through some searching on the Internet on the question I found Memrise, which I promptly decided was awesome. From Reddit I rapidly found Duolingo, and between those two and a number of other resources, I've made more progress in the past four months in learning another language than ever before. With the help of Lingua.ly I can muddle through most articles on Le Monde. My current additional learning efforts are translating a book of French poetry (Le Luth Brisé) that I picked up at a book sale, and reading "Le Mort de la Terre" while listening to the audio version. I also watch BFMTV, and often listen to French music. I probably spend a couple hours a day studying French, on average.
My current plan is to mainly focus on French for 2014, possibly taking a couple months to learn Esperanto, and then learning German and Spanish next. After that, I'll have to pick another language (I have an entire wishlist!)
Anyways, glad to be here!
