Fokus Deutsch has an overall depressing atmosphere... I can't stand it.
There's still nothing like French in Action.

An absolutely knock out combination that mimics French in Action to a degree is to
combine BBC's Deutsch Plus soap opera with the BBC's older course Deutsch Direkt. The
two together give you 40 minutes of video and allow a split between the language used
in drama (like the first half of FIA) and native language only explanations of grammar
and functions, with some real native interviews thrown in.

Both have books and tapes/cds - If I was to get one, it would be the more substantial
but less friendly Deutsch Direkt.
