I subscribe to quite a few YouTube channels, but a disturbingly large amount of them are in English. Let's have a thread where we list non-English YouTube channels that are worth subscribing to.

I made a post about French language YouTube channels and podcasts in my log. They're not all necessarily worth subscribing to, but you might find something you like. If you're into videogames, you've hit the jackpot, though!

Here's the YouTube part:

Sizen wrote:
Axolot, Science.
Bapt&Gael, Crude humour, Le Nouveau Cellulaire
BeastModeIII, Gaming Commentary.
cinefuzz, Cinema and Anime.
Cyprien, "Podcast français", Noël.
Cyprien Gaming, Gaming, Nidhogg : Le FOU RIRE ILLIMITÉ !.
Dany Caligula, Philosophy.
Diablox9, Commented Gaming.
e-penser, Science.
GonzagueTV, Comedy, Gonzague s'incruste aux NRJ Music Awards.
Je joue le jeu, Gaming (Quebec), Youkai Kurabu.
Joueurdugrenier, Comedic game reviews, Superman 64 & Batman Forever.
MrAntoineDaniel, Comedic video reviews, WHAT THE CUT - SPÉCIAL VIDÉOS RUSSES.
RealMyop, Speed runs/gaming.
Normanfaitdesvideos, "Podcast français".
Squeezie, Gaming.
Testeur Alpha, Comedic game reviews, Des jeux de Zapper.
Thomas Gauthier, Comedy (Quebec), Ta chambre est dégueulasse!.
Usul Master, Gaming and gaming philosophy, Usul Passion : Don't Starve.

I've only started looking at the Spanish part of youtube, but so far I haven't found much worth mentioning. I'll come back if I find anything.

Thank you, Sizen, for your list. I picked up a few gems from there (even though I'm not into gaming). But surely there must be more YouTube Channels out there that are worth subscribing to? I'd love to be able to replace my subscriptions to things like Smarter Every Day and Head Squeeze (I'd never stop watching CGPGrey, though!) with equally good stuff in other languages.

So bump.

You and I both, friend.

I recently had this conversation with a friend of mine. The French-speaking part of YouTube just isn't as widely developed as the English-speaking part yet. What I mean by that is that while videogame, fashion and entertainment channels are a dime a dozen, we have yet to see big channels on par with initiatives like crash course, vsauce, veritasium, minute physics, numberphile, etc. There are lots of reasons for this, but the major one seems to be time. The first English-speaking channels go waaaaay back, but a lot of the big French-speaking channels are fairly new. There aren't as many viewers or creators on the platform yet, but I suspect we will be seeing a boom in the next few years and that they will start to catch up. Until then, a lot of great channels won't exist yet, or if they do, they will be relatively unknown and hard to find.

That said, I've tried to remember some channels that I've heard of and I've also taken the initiative to look for other channels that could possibly be interesting. We're delving into unknown territory here as I haven't seen many or any of the videos of the channels I'm sharing today. Some of them are rather well-known and others have just started recently. I think it's worth giving them a shot though. They might just be the next big thing in a couple years!

The selection is also a teeny bit more diverse this time:

lafermejerome - Comedy (?)
Salut les geeks - Comedy (?)
Geek inc - General Geekery
NowTechTV - Technology reviews
Le psylab - Psychology
Questions I - Scientific answers to questions (?)(fairly recent)
Micmaths – Math tidbits
C’est pas sorcier – General knowledge (?)
Studio Bagel – Comedy
Le Rire Jaune - Comedy
Parlons Y-stoire – History and Geography
Durendal1 – Cinema
Hugo Tout Seul – Podcast Français
Les tutos – Comedic tutorials

Since I have some time before my classes start up again on Monday, I'm going to see if I can compile a small list of Japanese and Spanish channels that might be of interest to others. I have a hunch that videogame and comedy channels will be, once again, the easiest to find, but I'll try to dig a bit deeper. For Japanese, you're probably better off just going to NicoNico douga, though...

Here we go. I asked my brother and some friends to see what they watched and also did some looking around myself. I haven't had the time to look at all the channels thoroughly, so the genres I give to each channel might be a little off. I also tried to find a variety of different channels, so I avoided links to similar channels. If you start looking through lists of top subscribed channels in countries where your target language is spoken, you'll easily find these other channels. I also suggest looking through the related channels page of your favourite channels to find other creators with similar productions.

Anyway, hope you find something you like here. When I have more free time, I might try to make a more complete list.

Spanish
ArteDivierte – Art tutorials
JavierRuescas – Comedy: Literature, Music, Cinema, etc
elrubiusOMG – Videogames
LuzuVlogs – Vlogs, Surfing
Wismichu – Comedy
Mundo Desconocido – Science, pseudo-science (?)
Llegaexperimentos – Scientific experiments
Charly Labs – Science
Werevertumorro – Comedy
Paperpop – Crafts
ElvisaYomastercard – Comedy, tutorials
RoEnLaRed - Comedy

So the Spanish part of YouTube is great if you're in middle/high school and need help with math or science. There are so many channels dedicated to helping students who have troubles in these subjects. Why not get help in a foreign language while you're at it?

Japanese
Ari Keita – Guy talks about stuff
兄者弟者 – Videogames
瀬戸弘司 – Technology, Pop Culture
THE FACT – Politics, History
JETDAISUKE – Product reviews
KazuChannel – Product reviews
yubiken – Street fighter
[TokidoFans"> blog – Street fighter
ABTVNetwork - Animation, Comedy

The Japanese part of YouTube mainly consists of three things: product reviews, mobile games and English lessons. Oh, and then really weird things that are oddly entertaining. Don't forget those.

(Brazilian) Portuguese

I've been avoiding Spanish while I'm getting my Portuguese up to code. Anyway, I found this Brazilian channel with some quality funny stuff:

Porta dos fundos

It's pretty good!

There's also Super interessante. It's a knowledge channel of sorts, and it's pretty ok, though not super.

So I was on Topito the other day and came across this
goldmine. I
already mentioned some of these channels, but there are quite a few I didn't know of.

Enjoie.
