I recently joined a site that might also be of interest to other language learners. It's called Postcrossing (www.postcrossing.com) and the idea is to send and receive postcards from a random person somewhere in the world. It has 500,000 members from 216 different countries and is a great place to practice your language, culture and geography skills. I've met people from all over the world and gotten a lot of practice in all three of my languages even though cards are supposed to be sent in English (if I speak the language of that country I always write in that language anyway. People, especially Russian postcrossers, are usually THRILLED to get a postcard in their native language.) I've made lots of new pen pals that way and it's especially neat from a learning perspective because we write 100% in my target language (vs a true language exchange where you typically switch off) They also have places to make direct exchanges of cards and items on their forum and a sport just for pen pals.
I highly recommend it as another cool way to connect with your target culture.
