I used a different book today - but as it's still JLPT reading practice I think it still counts!

If I switch my goal to weekdays only, will I need to start counting again from 01? I need some variety in my routine.

I don't think you should have to start over at 1 each week, if you plan to only do weekdays.

Yeah, no need to start at 01 each week or even to start at 01 now that you'll be changing your goal. However as it's supposed to be a short-term thing, re-evaluate your goals while you're at it.

>10 words from the back of the book, plus revision of old word lists.

Distracted by problems :-( on my usual computer today, which is still being sorted out.

OK, it seems like a fair exchange to be able to keep my score but reevaluate my goals at the same time!

My overall goal is still to not get 0 on the test in December.

I've had 10 consecutive days of JLPT reading practice. The first 8 days were with the Unicom N3 book, but the last two days I've gone for it and started with the Kanzen Master N2 book. The passage yesterday wasn't too bad but the one today was quite brutal.

I'm going for an intensive reading approach, so as well as trying to get the answer right I'm also trying to understand every single word in the passage and why it is there - which should hopefully help me with the vocab and grammar sections of the exam as well as generally helping me make some steady progress in the language. It's challenging, but just about manageable with the short length passages.

Altogether, this kind of intensive reading exercise is very useful and a nice complement to the extensive reading I'm trying to do anyway. But I've decided to switch to weekdays only because I found after around a week of consistency I felt I really needed a little break from such an intensive activity. I think short breaks can be quite beneficial. Even Assimil mixes things up a bit by giving you a revision lesson once every 7 days, after all. Sundays are my language exchange days anyway, plus I'd like to fit in some targeted listening comprehension work at the weekend, so I'll still be doing stuff in Japanese, just with a different focus. And then the Consistency Thread should remind me to come back and start intensive reading again on Monday!
