Aeyuorghhhh. I hate ラルク, sorry. The only song of theirs I like is "The Fourth Avenue Cafe".
I like Shiina Ringo, Bonnie Pink, Love Psychedelico, Yukawa Shione, Sasagawa Miwa, some of Sakamoto Maaya, YUI, Rip Slyme, Rhymester, Shimokawa Mikuni, a bit of the brilliant green, and a few songs from various mainstream pop/rock bonds.
My usual Japanese playlist however, is still mainly dominated by anime character songs and Disney songs.
Of non-Japanese contemporary musicians, off the top of my head, amiina and Sigur Ros.

I know I'm very very late in coming to this thread, but I want to add some Afrikaans music. I'm only going to post a link for one song from each singer or band, posting a link to every Afrikaans song I like would take too long. Enjoy!
Foto Na Dans (TURN IT UP)
Vergeet van My
Pretty cool alternative rock band.
Chris Chameleon (LISTEN TO IT NORMALLY)
Die Onverkrygbare
A folk singer, with a great voice.
Fokofpolisiekar (TURN IT UP)
Hemel op die Platteland
Hugely popular and controversial South African alternative/punk rock band, their name is probably what keeps them from being more popular internationally.
Laurika Rauch (LISTEN TO IT NORMALLY)
Op Blouberg se Strand
Well-known singer, very good adult contemporary music.
Koos Kombuis (LISTEN TO IT NORMALLY)
Lisa se Klavier
Singer-songwriter and author. Lisa se Klavier is one of his most popular songs.
I'll post a few more links later, but first I think I'll listen to some of the Hungarian music mentioned in previous posts.

Now, as promised a few more Afrikaans songs
Ben Stof (LISTEN AT NORMAL VOLUME)
Die Liewe Heksie
Ben Stof is almost completely unknown, I don't remember how I first found his website, and he sells his CDs himself through PayPal, but what a captivating voice!
Theuns Jordaan (LISTEN AT NORMAL VOLUME)
Soos Bloed
Pop/Rock singer, not bad.
K.O.B.U.S. (TURN IT UP)
Swaar Metaal
Afrikaans Heavy Metal band.
Straatligkinders (TURN IT UP)
Gedagte vir Die Dag Afrikaans Emo/Punk band.
There's actually more Afrikaans music I could list, but this has already taken well over an hour.
Finally, something truly unique, a young man from Finland who raps in Inari Saami.
Amoc (TURN IT UP)
Kolle ákšu
Very intriguing language, according to an article in This is Finland only about 20 people actually understand his lyrics.
