Nobody seems to know what メン means on lang-8 as used on Fairy Tale. Actually, I'm lucky if the people correcting my journal have heard of Fairy Tale lol. So much for anime being super popular in Japan. メン or メーン or whatever is something this guy イチヤ keeps saying constantly. He also likes parfum and dances a lot. It seems really funny so I feel like I'm missing out. Could be a word he invented though.

I'm a big fan of SwiftKey so it's a big deal to me that they're coming out with Japanese support finally. I might switch my iPhone back to android if it's really nice. If you're interested here's a couple links:
(beta test download link, you need to setup a login at their forum)
http://vip.swiftkey.net/index.php?/forum/634-japanese-open-b eta-testing/.
(general info on Japanese support)
www.swiftkey.net/jp
There IS romaji input support although it defaults to kana. Just go to language settings.

I'm was doing so well watching Fairy Tale w/o subs and I was hoping for good results with my queued anime for this season on Crunchyroll. I watched Nanana's buried Treasure and it wasn't a complete disaster but I definitely felt like I was missing more of the jokes etc. I'm gonna tough it out and try to watch everything w/o subs however. Fairy Tale is funny but very straight forward. So much for my Japanese making a big leap forward while I wasn't looking. But on the bright side I've got over 100 episodes of Fairy Tale waiting for me.

I started a Japanese Language studying VLOG. Nothing new. I just did a 1st video and mostly introduced myself. If you're curious here's a link. It starts off with bad awkward Japanese and then when I get tired of that I switch to English.

I'm probably going to continue the video logs about once a week. I'm inspired by a couple other video logs on
YouTube from other language learners. Mostly attractive college girls so they get a lot more views than I ever
will. One girl starts talking in Japanese then switches to English which is why I did the same thing. And while
she's a lot more descriptive in English I enjoy her Japanese far more regardless of how well speaks it. So I'm
thinking of just doing Japanese only. Although I can see how beginners wouldn't get a thing out of it.
Oh well. I'll worry about that later. I'm also trying out the SRS flash cards in the "Japanese" dictionary of iOS
again. It's just so easy to quickly add words to my vocab list on that and I like how it tests both recognition
and production and it doesn't just test you so you get it right once and then you're done for the day. It keeps
making you study words several times so they stick. At least if you get them wrong. I copied over some word
lists from my other SRS program because I didn't want to just throw everything away.
And the plan is to hit up the 新完全 books soon. For text books, I like to learn the vocabulary first and then
focus in the lessons. So I'll be making word lists soon from the series.

iOS Japanese dictionary flashcards are going well. I have 300 due today though which is a lot. でも、大丈夫だ。 It's Saturday so I can do it. I'm getting tons right on the 1st try though even testing English to Japanese. Good sign. Of course, a lot of these vocabulary words were copy and pasted from my old SRS decks anyway but still. It'll take a couple weeks before I know if this will beat my old SRS program though.
I started doing the SRS grammar flashcards I had made for my old class material (woah, I typed crass.. I know people start typing English in katakana sometimes but I didn't think it would happen to me.) I'm 60 cards into it so far. A lot of cards won't be reviewed again for several months. I think I set the maximum interval at 5 months. I think I want to review grammar at least once every 5 months.. well maybe 6 months.. anyway, I don't want the interval to just increase indefinitely. Once a year at a minimum. But 5 or 6 months for now. I'm sure there's going to be a few from class that I'll make myself review pretty quickly again but not many. And then I'll focus on new grammar for JLPT 2 =). Just added a new grammar today.. だけに
ビルは元フットボール選手だけに、足が速い 。
Bill used to be a football player and , as one would expect, he runs fast.
Someone was asking about it in a forum and I looked it up in my shiny red ADVANCED Dictionary of Japanese grammar. I really am glad I got this thing even though I do not think I'm advanced. I've already found several structures in there and before I know I would get mad if a structure weren't in my Beginner or Intermediate dictionaries. They're so big especially combined that you would think they'd have everything I need but apparently not. But with the 3rd volume it seems I'm ok.
I would like to do another youtube video. All Japanese going forward. I'm not getting much for views anyway and the English was more so that viewers would get something out of the video. Recording myself in Japanese is more for me, and I do think it's helpful. If embarrassing. I might not get to it tonight, and I have work tomorrow, but Monday is off for the holiday so definitely by then.
