I'm actually quite surprised at how much I understand off it, being of specific accent.
But it's still hard for me to fully understand, and surely to translate, yet it's so
beautiful that I really wish I could - so please help.
(the lyrics might be a bit off, if you can offer corrections it would be awesome)

Lyrics :
Juljeitsan' a' fjella dro
mørkt va' om natta di fola -
me' kobbsjinnstøvla og jarnsko.
Og da' va' dag og ljøs, da di fram kom.
Hán pekka på dørra me' fenger'n sin
"Å høyr du litataus, læt me' inn".
"Nei, ingjen bón'gluint læt e' inn,
e' e' ei lita taus *alein".
*(opprinnelig: ... så fin?)
"E' e' ingjen bón', imøst du tok,
e' e' en Kongens sán sá klok".
"E' du en Kongens sán sá klok,
sá søng en sálm' førutjo bok!".
"Nei, ikje kan e' i bokjen sjá,
men meire kan e' pá harpa slá."
"kan du sá godt pá harpo slá,
sá gár e' át dørra á ly' darpá."
Resen han snudd' se' dørra ifrá.
Hán tørka de táran', sá ingjen sku' sjá.
Fór hán sá heim me' sjumilssteg,
møtt' hán mor si pá heimeveg.
"Kvi gjor' du ikj' sá hán far din klok?
Hán me' opigjønno' ljøren tok."
"E' ság vel da' sá pá ljøren sto',
e' røss i holl nár e' kjem da' i ho' !"

The lyrics are not correct. There are phrases missing and the spelling is really
eccentric too.
Juljeitsån i fjella for.
Mørkt va om natta di fola.
Med koppskinnstøvla og jernsko.
Og der var dag og lys da de fram kom.
Han pekka på dørra med fengern sin.
Mørkt va om natta di fola.
Og hei du tausa slepp me inn.
Og der var dag og lys da de fram kom.
Nei ingen ?? læt dæ inn.
Mørkt va om natta di fola.
Eg e' ei lita taus alein.
Og der var dag og lys da de fram kom.
...
Not gonna do the whole thing cause I can't understand everything anyhow, it won't be
accurate. Someone else might give you a different version. Paraphrasing (also not to be
trusted too much):
Julegeiten til fjells gikk
Mørkt var om natta ?? ????
Med koppskinnstøvler og jernsko.
Og der var dag og lys da de kom frem.
Han pekte på døra med fingeren sin.
Mørkt var om natta ?? ????
Og hei du jente slipp meg inn.
Og der var dag og lys da de kom frem.
Nei ingen ??? lar deg komme inn.
Mørkt var om natta ?? ????
Jeg er en liten jente alene.
Og der var dag og lys da de kom frem.
...
A rough effort, someone will do better.

Great band, lovely song, cool arrangment.
The lyrics which Laban posted happen to be transcribed by the Norwegian composer Fridthjov Anderssen, so probably nothing strange there. Just the odd dialect spelling. No missing lines from what I could note during this first listen. It's common to include the recurring lines ("mørkt va' om natta di fola" and "Og da' va' dag og ljøs/lys, da di fram kom") only once in the written lyrics.

Ha...omg, I actually visited this forum before for the same song and totally forgot about
it, anyway thanks Jeff. I remember it seemed quite odd to me to find such a discussion
considering the nature of these forums in general :)
One more thing, would you happen to know where could I find lyrics for other Folque songs
? if not, would it be possible to ask for transcriptions on this forum?

Thanks xD, these rough translations and lyrics uploads are all mine :), it would be nice
if you could offer some corrections so I can improve them. I've actually started a thread
here asking for that exact thing :)
And of course, I know the official site. So, any other help will be much appreciated.

I don't have active Norwegian, so you would get better comments from native speakers. In "Skjon jomfru" it should be "han skiftede om sine kleder, sine kleder" (kleder=clothes). In "og stak det gjennom sitt liv.", 'liv' means body, trunk, abdomen (it's "Leib" in German, and of course it's closely related to 'Leben' and 'life').
More lyrics here:

I can't imagine there's no collection of lyrics, maybe on Norwegian folk music forums, mailing lists etc.

Fixed!
I actually thought these two were somewhat metaphoric. Well, the first one was a typo
so I'll leave at that. But the second "og stak det gjennom sitt liv." - is it
completely impossible for 'liv' to mean life? I mean, archaically/poetically it could
work, and sounds great to me, only question is - could this word actually mean life?
from what you wrote I assume it could?
About Folque's lyrics, I've scoured the net many hours in several languages to end up
empty. All of of what you've shown me so far, including this last site, have lyrics
from the first 3 albums which I already have. The lyrics for their following 4 albums
are just no where to be found (quite amazing with today's internet).
I'm uploading the lyrics and translating them not only because I love Folque, or as a
language practice, but because no one else seems to be doing it or even care too much
about this band. I hope the work I put into it would better document the band and make
it accessible to whoever is interested in the future. And generally, make Norwegian
more accessible and improve the internet.
So, any additional information, corrections or whatever help you're willing to offer
would be great.
thanks a lot.
