Linguistic hyperprescriptivism is in itself a political view. The idea that French is "under threat" from foreign loans and native innovations is not only totally wrong, but also indicative of the monolingualist, nationalist ideology behind the Academie. It's fine to set a standard, but it's when people start to say that the standard is inherently better than other forms of speech that I start to get pissed off.
