I disagree with you both about 10 :) Well, I agree with leosmith about listening from the beginning, but it doesn't have to be balanced. But I also disagree that if you want to read, then speaking and listening are useless. Look at Prof Argüelles who starts with Assimil and shadowing. At the very least, it's important to learn the pronunciation properly before you start reading without an accompanying audio.
But I definitely agree that if speaking is a high priority for you, you should get out there and talk.
About 20 - a good tutor is one who helps you with what you can't do on your own. For some that's grammar, for many speaking. But there's nothing that's inherently impossible to learn on your own. I've never had a Finnish class/tutoring session in my life.
As for 11, I think it's good to mention Rosetta Stone explicitly. THAT'S not a legitimate method like Assimil or Teach Yourself. Also, techniques matter more than coursebooks. But you need to be flexible. If you only do something because that's part of your plan, it's time to think it over and make changes.

Also, maths and science can be a great fun too. Just look at what modern museums offer.
