I have a question for native Scandinavian-language speakers. As someone who has lived in a monolingual environment his whole life, I have become quite curious about the language situation in places where English is widely known as a second language. One such region is Scandinavia. So I can better understand what role English plays, I was curious to know whether you prefer to browse the Internet and perform tasks and things on your computer in your native language, or whether English is dominant in this respect? Are you truly equally comfortable in English as in your mothertongue? Part of the reason I ask also has to do with the fact that Yahoo Business has closed down its Scandinavian language sites, since most users prefer simply to do it in English.

When I browse the Internet I don't really think a lot about whether I do it in Norwegian or in one of the other languages I can read without much effort (Danish, Swedish, English, Spanish and Catalan). I think I spend most of the time on English web sites (among them this forum). If I want to look up something on Wikipedia, I usually consult the English version first. This is simply because there are more articles and they are usually a lot more thorough than the Norwegian ones. I don't think members on this forum are representative of the general public. We are language nerds. I know people who avoid English if they can because they find Norwegian so much easier to read.
