Try Fernando Sabino or Nelson Rodrigues. They use a relatively easy vocabulary.

Try André Vianco. I simply love his books, they're very well written, with casual vocabulary, pretty easy. His books are mostly about vampires ... in Brazil! Plus, it's not Rio-centered! Haha
