Good morning,
my name is Frau Doktor, I'm German and I've been interested in languages pretty much all my life, even though it's gotten me nothing but trouble and frustration so far. My native language is German. I used to speak my parents' language too, until I started kindergarten (is there really no English word for that?) and realized that no one else spoke it there except me. Since I was already a spineless conformist at the age of 4, I started speaking German only, thus missing out on the one-time opportunity to become bilingual. I guess I took up an interest in languages to make up for that loss. Like I already said in another post, I'm really happy to be here and meet like-minded people. I'm planning to ask lots of stupid questions, especially about Hebrew, because I don't know anyone in the real world who speaks that language. I'm also hoping to be able to take part in a challenge soon, since I don't work well without pressure. Thanks for reading. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I'm replying here to "I can't speak", as I'd have to explain it all if I posted on the other thread. My apologies for the amateur psychology, but maybe you could try a bit of cognitive behaviour therapy to convince your four year old self that it's ok to speak funny sounding foreign languages.

Welcome to the forum, Frau Doctor! The little Hebrew I once knew is long forgotten, but I loved it, and I will follow you questions with interest. There is no such thing as stupid questions, only stupid answers! What was your parents' language by the way?

Welcome to the forum! I'm looking forward to your questions about Hebrew. Maybe I'll learn something from them, too :) Why are you interested in the language? I studied it, but it's on hold for now, because I never really got to use it.

It's true! There is no English word for Kindergarten. In the USA, we call it Kindergarten... although many native American English speakers are likely to Americanize it and slur through the word, saying... kinnygarden.
