Hi everyone!

I'm new here, and as the topic's title doesn't mention, I am not from China, but France =)

I turned 18 last october, and I currently study English in unversity.

As far as I can remember, I've always been in touch with foreign languages. My grandpa, for instance, who has been living in Germany for about 15 years, used to tell me some German words, even before I was able to pronounce myself a single word!
As I've been fond of video games when I was younger (I was like 6 when I had my very first game), I've also been reading English pretty early in my life.

Later, when I was about 14, I began to be some kind of even more interested in foreign languages. I tried to be surrounded by them as much as I could, like setting the computer in English, watching German TV, reading Spanish newspaper...

Basically, to sum up the mess, I am fluent in French (One is always fluent with its native language I suppose) and English, as I've been studying it for a long time.
I've learnt Spanish and German too in high school, but I can't express myself in Spanish, though I have no major troubles understanding it. As I studied German only 2 years, my skills are pretty weak. Recently, I've been working on Japanese and Chinese, for no particular reason, except that they sound nice to me.

I am not planning to improve my skills in Spanish or German yet, because I'm already busy learning Chinese. I can ready like only 50 漢字, which is weak, though I know both traditionnal and simplified form of each. As you noticed if you can read Chinese, I tend to use the traditionnal form, because as I know way more japanese 漢字 (Well, only about 150), and as they're the same, it's some kind of easier to me. And even if they tend to disappear, Korean Hanja are also the same, as I'm planning to learn it in the future.

I can also read Greek alphabet and Futhark, which is useless because I don't understand a word of what I'm reading.

By joining the forum, I'm hoping to practise a lot despite of my low level in some languages, and besides, maybe I could be able to help some members to improve their skills, especially in French.

I hope I didn't forget anything, if I did, feel free to ask =)

I'm sorry to tell you that this is not the case, for example have a look at 验 (yan4): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/93/Kanji1.sv g
Which has a traditional variant and a Japanese and a Chinese simplified variant. Take care to don't mix them up.

Welcome on this board, always nice to have a fellow Chinese learner. (though I can only read traditional characters)

Thank you for pointing that out, indeed, some japanese kanji are used in the simplified variant, though they are not that numerous. Most of them are the same, that's what I was thiking ^^
