Nice to meet you all.
My name is Stefan and I finally notice my passion for languages a little while ago. I've studied French from a young age, but my studies were mostly school-based so I never got very comfortable speaking French. I've also studied Japanese for a few years mostly on my own, and I did a five month exchange to Japan in my last year of high school, 2 years ago. However, about a year ago, I realized that the reason I was learning Japanese wasn't solely because I was intrigued by the culture, but because languages interest me in general. I picked up French again about a year ago and I feel like I'm just on the verge of reaching a satisfactory level of fluency in it! (I hope to take and, in the best case scenario, pass the C2 exam in May this year. Just need to continue reading intensively and talk about as many complex subjects as possible before then!) Anyway, I've also picked up Spanish since my college offers it and since I thought I was going to need it for university. Turns out that I don't necessarily need it, but I like it so I'm continuing with it. To be honest, I'm going head first into Spanish, attempting to learn it to the highest level of fluency I can in 5 months (which shouldn't be very high). The reason I'm trying to cram so much into such a short period of time is because I will be doing an exchange to Taiwan this year in August and I would like to have a good level in two foreign languages before I leave and start learning Mandarin. Looking even further into the future, I plan on improving my Japanese upon my return to Canada. (It hasn't had much love these past few months...) Then, since I'll have to continue with my higher education, I plan on studying linguistics in a Quebecois university, where I will more than likely study German and Russian if I feel like I have the time and the energy. Basically, all of my friends think I'm crazy. Actually, I think I might be; although I'm probably in good company here. ;) 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

Welcome to the forum, Stefan! It sounds like you'll feel right at home here. ;) You're so lucky to be going to Taiwan to learn Chinese! I'm a big fan of this language as well.
