English and German
Quote:
English and German
Duration: 28 minutes
First broadcast: Tuesday 14 May 2013
At the Brighton Festival, Michael Rosen explores our linguistic links with Germany.
Michael and his guests discuss our shared Anglo Saxon heritage, cultural influences
from the Romantics to the Weimar Republic, and how the two languages relate to each
other in the modern era. And we hear from other writers and artists having fun with
words on stage in Brighton - oratory and story-telling are strong themes at this month-
long festival.

Thanks for sharing! I like it so far (I've only heard a couple of minutes).

Glad you like it. Michael is a nice guy, and I like that series. It's more usually about
the English language per se, and less directly about the influence of other languages,
but in general, I suppose it's about the way that language changes.
I think Michael is of Jewish heritage - I don't know if of German-Jewish, but I think
he's spoken about Yiddish in the past.

Although this is a different programme, I thought I'd put it in the same thread:
Gisela Stuart MP - Autobiographies in 2 Languages - 1 of 5
Gisela Stuart is a German-born Labour MP in the British House of Commons.
She gives a brief story of her life, and her view of the differences between English and German.
This programme is the first of a series.
Check the schedule here:

I think the following episodes are on at the same time each day.
