Inspector Clouseau and his German phrasebook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc_Ycnqm1Cc

Joey from Friends learning French: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqwzvtjeYBQ (not their most hilarious storyline).

That's all I can think of right now.

In an early episode of The Simpsons, Bart becomes an extreme example of the strict input-
based method by going immediately from zero output to fluent production in French.

日本人の知らない日本語 is a light-hearted drama about teaching Japanese to foreigners.

In the film The Hulk (2008 version), Bruce Banner is learning Portuguese while living in Brazil. He is shown watching TV with a Portuguese-English dictionary in hand. Later on he makes an amusing mistake when he says to someone, "You won't like me when I'm hungry." (One of Banner's classic quotes is "You won't like me when I'm angry.")

I just saw another film example:

In the film Loopers, the main character spends a lot of his spare time studying French. He has headphones in while waiting to kill someone, and he's repeating conjugations.

Since lots of people have mentioned films...

Prometheus was a terrible movie. But one of the characters is studying ancient languages so that he can talk to
aliens who created life on Earth millennia ago.

Prometheus was great. A welcome break from all the tedious superhero movies that clog up
theaters these days. And the ancient language in question seemed to be some form of
reconstructed PIE.
