Cheguei à aula 25 de Assimil. As aulas agora começam a ser mais difíceis - há algumas palavras
que não conheço e os dialogos tornam-se mais longos. Mas ainda tudo bem - consigo seguir com
três aulas por dia. Talvez logo terei que ir mais devagar.

Assimil lesson 32. The bizarre subjunctive that looks like the infinitive! In my reading I
have totally not been able to figure out how this works, so I'm glad we're there already
with Assimil (as opposed to leaving it to the end).
Incidentally, it's interesting how most of the content so far has been review (with some
nice clarifications along the way). The subjunctive is the first real new thing I've
encountered. It makes me think my input-early-and-often based approach to learning a
language from the same language family is spot on. It makes Assimil more efficient, because
much of it is well known and I have a lot of time to focus on the few oddities that I still
don't understand. Back when I first did Assimil for Italian I was a bit overwhelmed with
the number of new things in each lesson.

Just discovered bliubliu. It's very appealing in terms of ui, I like the little animations and
animated transitions all over the place. I don't really get how it would fit into my learning
process, though. I try the various categories (jokes, short texts, books) and I'm bored after
a few minutes. For me it lacks an overarching structure of some sort, just counting words
isn't that insightful.
Also, it only handles words. There is no selecting/translating of expressions.

First Dutch video!
I didn't think I would be able to do this one spontaneously, so I wrote it as an article
first, got some feedback on lang8 and finally recorded the video. It came out not too bad.
Bilan jusqu'ici:
3 videos en français
2 videos en italien
1 video en néerlandais

Assimil lesson 35. I have to slow down the pace from 3 lessons a day to 2. They have gotten
much longer and it takes more effort to go through them now. In any case the active phase is
coming soon, so I'd never be able to sustain this pace anyway.
An odd thing has happened, though. I don't know if this is just an off day for me, or if it's
more than that. But the last few lessons don't feel that interesting to me anymore. I don't
feel the same curiosity and excitement about the language. We'll see what happens the rest of
the week...

Holy breakthrough, Batman! This is by far the best video I've made so far. It wasn't
completely spontaneous - I did try to tell the story once without the camera to prime the
needed vocabulary. But I only did one take, I got through it very well and it had more energy
and authentic expression than any video to date. I am starting to love this!

I'm quuuuuuuuite tempted to start peeking at Mandarin already. Portuguese used to be exotic,
but ain't no more...
You see there is this Fnac (media store) in Brussels that is kinda the nationwide Assimil HQ
where they have tooons of languages. Apart from Assimil they also have a good selection of
Harrap and other publishers. And the last time I was there I was leafing through some cute
Chinese calligraphy workbooks hm...
I might just jump on that Brussels train one of these days.
