Hva er det some foregår? Jeg har aldri visst at disse tallene har såpass rare navn. Hva
kommer det av?
Det virker som om 50 betyr mer eller mindre "halv tre" eller noe i den retning.

It comes from a number system based on the number 20 (fingers + toes - and a history that reaches back at least to the Babylonians).
for instance
the seventieth: den halvfjerdsindstyvende
"halvfjerde" = 4 minus ½ = 3.5
"sinds" = times
"tyve" = twenty
"-ende" marks ordinal numbers
so den halvfjerdsindstyvende = 3,5 x 20 = 70
q.e.d.
PS: just learn those numbers and forget about their meaning!

Fransk har et liknende system for talla mellom åtti og hundre:
80 = quatre-vingts (fire-tjue)
92 = quatre-vingt-douze (fire-tjue-tolv)
Litt humor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrGIhrs3HkI&feature=related
