HTLAL is a great place for language learners but it isn't the begin all and end all of all things language learning. Ellen has documented her story on her blog Ellen Jovin Blog She isn't learning each language to fluency but has made remarkable progress in some and not done so well in others.
Yes, she is using Pimsleur as a part of her language learning, along with other resources. She isn't attempting to become the next big thing in "polyglotdom". Nevertheless, I find her project fascinating. The WSJ probably isn't interested in following her journey to completion, that's a non-story for most people. Ellen will most likely write about this at some point, and I look forward to reading what she has gained out of her project.
Anyone interested can follow her journey on her blog. If you enjoy language learning and good writing, I highly recommend reading her blog. One of the things I find interesting is how New York City and its people are a huge resource in her language learning endeavor. She's currently learning Hebrew. She is an excellent and entertaining writer. I enjoy reading her blog very much.

So, keeping all the above considerations in mind, I have settled on a new plan for what I expect to be the final stage of this project. I can’t promise I won’t change my mind, but at the moment my new goal is: to get as good as I can in French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese, all at the same time I mean, by the the end of June 2012, which will be the three-year mark for this project, and probably, though not necessarily, its conclusion.
That means:
undertaking several months of intensive Portuguese study (I know only one Portuguese word now: obrigado/a), probably January through March 2012
studying however long it takes to revive my Italian (which, despite the blogging silence, I have actually been working on again daily since October 1)
refreshing and improving my Spanish, French, and German, which keep sagging to varying degrees when I am not supervising my skills in them properly
doing whatever it takes to keep the Romance languages from polluting one another, which I expect to be a huge—though I hope not insurmountable—challenge
coming to terms with dropping a few languages from the project, which is paining me greatly

I do agree with you iguanamon, her project is fascinating. it's a shame pimsleur seems to be "not that good" for her

What I intended by that statement was to remind members that there are good language blogs elsewhere, besides here at HTLAL. In my opinion, if Ellen were writing her blog here it would be quite popular.

No offense, but I doubt it. It would be lost among the thousands of other blogs. Or it would be flamed on heavily,
since she has a ridiculously misleading title. Where she has it is better. It will stand out, and (I assume) she can
delete unwanted comments.

At the risk of adding a useless post to the discussion, I think we should stop this
little side adventure right here. She does not have a blog here, and it does not have a
title of any kind. Speculating about whether is would be popular seems a little outside
of the discussion as I understood it, which was this lady's language learning and the
article about it.
