For example "Don Quixote" in orignial Spanish had the reputation at my university of being an extremely difficult book, but with my B1 - level Spanish I wanted to read it. So I bought the simplified and shortened story of "Don Quixote" as an "Easy Reader Level C" in Spanish and read the whole book, so now I have an impression what "Don Quixote" is about.
In my opinion graded readers or easy readers are always useful to read, if you want to read a certain fictional book in a foreign language and your language level is not high enough to read the original version.
