Hi! I just discovered this forum after doing some random internet searches about language-related topics.

I grew up speaking Spanish at home and learned English in school; my parents were Mexican immigrants. In college I decided to learn German and later I started to learn French, then I added Japanese to the mix. I'd like to learn Swedish, Norwegian, or Dutch eventually and also "pick up" passive knowledge of Italian and Portuguese.

Since I wasn't educated in Spanish, I'm currently trying to polish my Spanish as well as to improve my German as quickly as possible. I'm also (re)learning French so I can actually use it actively in the future.

I have a full-time non-linguistic career, but I'm thinking about becoming a part-time translator in the future.

I'm happy to be here; I've already learned a lot lurking over the past week!
