Howdie from Vancouver Canada. Name's Jacob or Jake. I'm a Canadian eccentric turned technical writer as well as amateur translator, linguistic anthropologist, and gastronomist.
Language wise, I'm fluent in English, French, and Arabic, relatively literate/passively competent in Hebrew, Italian, and Middle English, and bare basic in Turkish and Crimean Tatar.
Education wise, I majored in linguistics, English literature, and technical writing in university.
C'est it.

Welcome to the forum - and if you start a log thread you are welcome to use references to books and articles in your target languages about astrophysics (which is interesting precisely because it is weird) - it doesn't always have to be fiction to be fun.

For me astrophysics isn't weird but fascinating and you are not the only language learner here who is interested in natural science. See Iversen and me, to give an example. But there are more people...

The natural sciences and mathematics are two true wonders in life. I think astrophysics is particularly cool (to me) because it is one of those sciences in which a true unification with the human imagination is required in order to realize its most abstract of concepts...

Welcome to the forum, Jake! It's cool to have some people here who have actually studied linguistics – it's a great resource for those of us, like me, who do it all as amateurs (in every sense of the word).

Welcome! It's great to have another Arabic speaker on these forums, and great to see someone else interested in the sciences (I work in a science field). :)

Welcome!
Technical writing sounds like an interesting profession. It's also really great to see some actual linguists here :)

Of my languages.. I in fact translate modern Arabic literary works into English and I'm actively pursuing Turkish on behalf of my lover/partner.
