Hi, everyone. I am an American who learned some Mandarin--like A2 or a little more--in China while teaching
English, but had to cut my journey there short due to health conditions probably related to the toxic environment
there. I have always admired or envied those who could speak other languages, and I have always been interested
in cultural differences around the world. One of my places of interest is Denmark, because my preconceptions hold
that the social values of the people there could compliment American values nicely...all that happiest people in the
world and such. I would like to become fluent enough in Danish to work or study there in some capacity some day,
so I have been scouring the Web for an optimal method of study. I have the language-learning skill of a beginner
right now, so I am entering uncharted territory, as they say.
I can't believe there are so many successful language learners at my reach. My lurking on this forum has provided
me a lot of inspiration.

Welcome TBerg! Danish is a wonderful language. It's very high on my hitlist for after
Dutch. I wish you the best of luck, and hope to see you around the forum.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I think my language-learning quest is going to be difficult for me
at first, until I habituate myself in efficient and effective study practices.
I have not found the ideal vehicle for my quest yet. But I have decided that using a dictionary while reading
children's books is not the way to go, because I just can't remember the words that way, and going to the dictionary
so often is not good for staying in the flow of just experiencing the language. I think I will try to follow Professor
Arguelles's discipline of shadowing and scriptorium, and really put some effort into it. I hope that will get me into a
solid intermediate level in a year, but we will see.
