Hi! I'm Reve, I'm from the West Coast of the United States, and I'm currently attempting to teach myself Danish. Mainly because my goal is to visit (and maybe even move to) Denmark -- I really like the Scandinavian countries, Denmark in particular -- and I'd like to be able to really get involved in the culture while I'm there. (I've also been learning Spanish off and on, mainly in school -- it's not my focus right now.) Language is something I've always been extremely interested in, though admittedly most of my exposure to other languages is through music. I'm a bit of a music fanatic.
Anyway, since this is my first attempt at teaching myself a language (and because I'm broke), I've basically just been cobbling together an understanding from everything I can: free online resources, Danish music, flash cards, even changing the interface language on my browser and some websites to Danish and attempting to hold conversations with Cleverbot.com. I just found the Scandinavian/Nordic Language Resources thread, so I'm checking out the links there now... oh my gosh, what a godsend. I've been really struggling with pronunciation and need to build my vocabulary, but I have a basic grasp of the grammar and some reading comprehension. What I need is more practice speaking it with people, I think. (Cleverbot is fun, but it's nowhere near the same as talking to an actual human being.)
