This doesn't completely apply to the topic, but I discovered only this week that a now relatively famous American who is fluent in French is Bradley Cooper.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hmeuMSFIVE

I would like to point out him specifically based on the criteria that:

1) it is not his native language
2) he is a native English speaker
3) he is American
4) knows another language without growing up there

with number 3 having the implication that it is all the more impressive since this thread so far has been dominated by non-native English speakers and non-Americans, who already have to know at least another language (English) to be successful in their craft (acting).

Also, regarding number 4, a lot of these actors come from backgrounds where they spend some time of their childhood growing up in another country...meaning they learned the language naturally.

I was particulary impressed with Bradley Cooper because from reading his bio, it seems he learned French originally for a reason that someone on this forum like me is doing it...just because he wants to! Meaning he had to study it at an older age and not something he picked up easily as a child like children automatically do.

I guess what I am trying to get at is I am more impressed with someone famous who speaks another language well because they studied it (like we do here) rather than just because they are from a multi-cultural background.

Sally Phillips (Shazzer in Bridget Jones) has excellent Italian (and a 1st Class degree from Oxford)

Omid Djalili (Gladiator and others) is British of Persian parents and 'does' several English accents well and sometimes uses Persian in his stage act.

Anybody know how many Charles Bronson speaks? I know of Polish, English, French, and suspect Spanish, Italian
and possible more. I ask because I was shocked to see him speaking French in an old film on TV recently, and it was
quite good. It wasn't a voice-over; he also spoke English in the same film when addressing his American superiors.
