Hi all!
I want to know what do you think guys about this learning routine • Michel Thomas 1 lesson a day • Pimsleur 1 lesson a day • reading and listening podcasts 30 minutes a day • Films and favourite tv series in free time with subtitles(bbc?) • Find a friend native speaker and try to converse daily(penpal) • Write 1 story with interesting topic a week thought up by myself • Use shadowing to learn speaking/accent 20 minutes a day from podcasts • Duolingo (use travel time to work) • assimil 1 lesson a day I must say that i don't really like anki and flashcard just i cant concentrate :). Looks fine to me, although personally I would do all of Michel Thomas, then move to Pimsleur, so 2 lessons per day?

What level are you, what are your immediate goals, strengths and weaknesses, and what is your target language?
Everything you have listed is a potentially useful activity, but it depends a lot on your level and what problems you are trying to solve. If you're a complete beginner, you'll have a bit of work to do before you can start speaking and writing to any extent and you won't get much, if anything, out of watching TV in the target language without doing some homework first. On the other hand, if you are not a complete beginner, Pimsleur + Michel Thomas + Assimil is probably overkill. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I want to learn fluently German(it means knowing
3000 most popular words, reading books/articles, speaking and listening), at the moment I know about 300-400 words. I don't really like flashcards and I perceived that I don't enjoy too much listen reading (it's exhausting after doing it for 20mins, that's because I want to do it daily only for 30- 1h). In language learning I most enjoy speaking with other person and using new sentences loudly, it's horrible because tutors costs much and I don't really have money :/. I haven't ever try pimsleur or Michel Thomas. Any ideas? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I tend to agree about Michel Thomas. I only have experience with one MT course (the Polish Foundation and Advanced), but if the format is the same, I'm not sure I'd know what to call "a lesson". It's pretty fluid and, at least as far as the original format goes, the whole course was meant to be done in about a weekend. I'd sit through as much as I could each day until I finished the course, then move on. That's not to say that I wouldn't refer back to the MT course later, but I think breaking it up into "lessons" is less effective. R. == 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I have now about 1 week free out of work. I thought

That's pretty much how I started learning German and it was a very useful introduction to the language. I didn't like the German Pimsleur, but that is personal preference. I thought German Assimil was pretty good, but ultimately I needed more systematic grammar instruction, which suits the way I learn better. Also check out all the free resources for learning German on the Deutsche Welle website at www.dw.de. There is a lot of good quality material here (I particular liked Warum Nicht)and it looks like a lot of the beginner level stuff is also available through the medium of Polish, if you prefer to learn through your native language. 1 person has voted this message useful |
