Okay, this might not be interesting to everyone, but I'm guessing one or two of you out there might find it as interesting as I do. It's the classic Chinese poem compilation "唐詩三百首" (Tong4 si1 saam1 baak3 sau2) available in its entirety for free online. Most but not all have accompanying mp3s with Cantonese reading. Some shadowing and memorization of this stuff and you'll be able to flabbergast any crowd of Cantonese speakers with ease (provided you have a white face).

A lot of people find that classical poems sound better in Cantonese than in Mandarin, since Cantonese pronunciation is more conservative and as such closer to what the poems sounded like when they were written. Many poems still rhyme in Cantonese that don't rhyme anymore in Mandarin due to sound shifts.

Even if you're studying Mandarin, you could benefit from having a look at these, as they're an integral part of Chinese culture and still memorized by many Chinese children. They are, however, in trads.

Thanks Ari for posting this valuable resource! In my spare time, I translate not only the poem but the story if any that brought about its creation.

I have searched for such audios in vain. Thanks! I'm sure there are poems read aloud in
other branches of Chinese on line also; but not on the surface.

They can be found on Librivox.com, in Hokkien, Tawainese as well.
