There is no modern English to Russian Assimil version. It's Dutch, German or French. I have experience speaking the latter two but I would not be comfortable in them as a base language (I should be so much more comfortable than I really am in French, ugh).
I just stuff words into Anki every day or so - depending on how actively I am learning vocabulary that day. I just have a big Russian deck that I use to remember words both ways (i.e. I'll put in the English and Russian word and then generate the reverse cards). I then just practice a bunch of random flashcards every day and see how much I remember. Usually this is everything except maybe one or two words - I assimilate vocabulary REALLY EASILY and usually don't spend more than a few minutes memorising words and such. (I basically look at wordlists and remember 80% anyway).
I do not put in really obvious words I use all the time and will remember anyway (such as театр). I put in words that crop up in textbooks but aren't always in the beginning of chapter word lists following a dialogue, or words I know I am going to have trouble remembering or pronouncing (long words f.e.). I usually remember 80% of a wordlist anyway so vocabulary never really is an issue.
I know it's unorthodox, but I was unfairly blessed with a good memory (I never spent more than five minutes memorizing vocab in high school either - and always got top grade).

Not really, since the vocab isn't the problem. The grammar is :)

Haha, thanks. This log is predominantly meant for Russian since I am not, at this point in time, studying either French or German formally in any way. They might crop up because I learned them at some point in the past and both languages are rusty, particularly my French is getting so bad after my little two month immersion.

Today was spent studying something else than Russian mostly, courtesy of an exam on thursday, but I did just get some vocab in. Not too bad, as per usual, a four or five minute Anki session adding some new cards and reviewing them for the first time. Tomorrow, I will probably review some old cards at random. What I reviewed this morning was all correct in one go, so my vocab retention - as good as ever, I guess.
I haven't been able to get past lesson 3 of TY for that very reason - I finished all my Russian homework for tomorrow's class already (though I need to give one dialogue another spin) and then after that I will start working on lesson 4 of TY Russian - just get my genitives for personal pronouns in first.
меня, тебя, его, её, нас, вас, их
у меня, у тебя, у нево, у неё, у нас, у вас, у них
(prepositional requirement inserts an н before personal pronouns that don't start with a vowel)

Woops. Of course (even though it's pronounced that way).
