Hi, I'm Gaby and I live in the US. Nice to meet you all! I'm 17 and currently a high school senior. I plan on double majoring in French and German in college, and eventually getting a degree in translation and becoming a translator. I've always had somewhat of an interest in languages, but it really started off when I began studying French about two and a half years ago at school. My absolute love is German however, which I began studying independently about a year and a half ago (no German taught at school unfortunately). I listen to a lot of German music and I would love to visit Germany one day. It seems like such a beautiful interesting country.
My other passion is horseback riding and I take lessons every week and compete in shows. I also have a Chincoteague colt named Freedom whom I hope to start training soon.
Well, I figured talking with others who have a passion for languages would help me in my studies and this forum seems pretty comprehensive, not to mention interesting! Looking forward to see what everyone here has to offer!

I'll show your post to my daughter - she's 17, French and we live here in Germany on a horse farm. I can't promise an instant penpal or anything like that - she's actually quite focused on finishing her Bac (French High School) but also plans to use her languages in her future area of study, so who knows!
Best of luck on your endeavors -- if you are thinking of working in those languages - get yourself to France/Germany ASAP - nothing will help you learn as much as living the language.

Welcome to the forum, Lichtkleid! Let me first say that I love your forum name. :) German is also my favorite language. I started off by listening to German music in high school too (also had to study French there, like you), and now I'm living in Germany and studying for an M.A. in German-English translation. So I feel like we're in very similar situations!
Cool to hear you have a Chincoteague, too – did you actually get him from the island? I went through a big horse phase myself. :)

What coincidences!
Thank you, zenmonkey! No problem, I understand how busy your daughter is right now as I have two big papers and our senior trip coming up :)
Thank you, Jinx - it's from the opening line of Rammstein's Fruehling in Paris.
And yes, I got him from the island when he was about four months old. It makes me happy that you know what a Chincoteague is - most people haven't heard of them :)

Well, I'm sure you know the "Misty" books, then – that's what first introduced me to the lovely story of the Chincoteague and Assateague ponies. :)
