Well, I joined this forum way back, but I only recently started posting. So, please let me introduce myself.
I'm a 23-year old guy from Romania.
That's it.
Just kidding.
I have a BA in Political Science, and I'm currently two or three months away (hopefully) from getting an MA in the same field.
I don't speak a lot of languages, because I spent a lot of time learning the ones I do speak, and immersing myself in them (I've had the opportunity to do so almost for free, for which I'm very thankful).
Romanian, obviously, is my native language.
I picked up English from watching Cartoon Network without subtitles when I was a kid, and I slowly became better and better at it. I perfected it when I moved to New York City in 2003 and went to high school there til 2006.
I learned German when I moved to Austria in 1998 and went to school there. I had gotten to an advanced level when I left Austria in 2002, but after two years in Romania and three in the US I forgot almost all of it. Or so I thought. When I went back to Austria in 2007, and started going to college there, the language naturally came back to me, and I speak it (almost) as well as English now.
I learned some Spanish in NYC: not only in the Spanish classes (those definitely helped me understand the formal aspects of the language), but also a lot of it with my friends in school, who were mostly Dominican and Puerto Rican. The sad thing is, I had only reached somewhat basic fluency when I left NY, and in Romania and Austria I haven't had the opportunity to speak Spanish. I also didn't study it further, and I have to say it has deteriorated with time. I'm trying to brush up on it now...
That's about it, a simplified view of my language abilities... I also tried learning a lot of other languages on my own, but gave up very quickly because I'm used to learning languages through (almost full) immersion, and any other method seems too difficult.
I love it here on the forum and hope to stick around! See ya!

I guess I can't really welcome you to the forum, you've been here longer than me... But I'm here to repay the compliment: sounds really interesting! :D
Wow, you had the chance to go to school in Austria and the US... that's pretty cool.
Do you have any current language goals?
You could always try to get some artificial immersion: find some Spanish-speaking people to hang out with, watch Spanish TV shows, read Spanish books. I do that with Korean and while it doesn't work as well as actually living in the country, it's the next best thing and gets me decent results.

My feelings exactly. I am trying to learn a couple of new ones anyway, but that is pure stubbornness.
Fortunately I am an extremely stubborn lady:-) Welcome as an active member of the forum. I enjoy your
writings and look forward to seeing more of you.

Thanks for the welcomes!
Druckfehler, my goal for now is to improve my Spanish, and your suggestions are actually what I'm trying out right now. (Und Druckfehler möchte ich natürlich vermeiden :P)
Solfrid, I love the way you write on here, your posts are always of great quality :) I've been fascinated with the Nordic countries for a long time, and I would love to learn a Nordic language... I heard Norwegian is best if you want to understand the other ones as well, but since I'm used to immersion I guess I'm gonna have to move to Norway to learn it :P
