Bonsoir from Germany.
It's almost 2AM here and it had been a long time since I had been up that late. I usually go to bed at 10PM so... what time could be better than now to write my introduction.
I've been reading this forum for years, I love it, but never posted something until now. I must say I've been a bad lover, leaving for months sometimes, coming back without saying a word, and leaving again without a note. Damn.
Anyway, a few words about me, as this is my intro :D
I'm supposed to die this year as a lot of people call me Jesus in the streets (that's an easy devinette to let people guess my age).
I was a mediocre language student at school and even though we had to take English and Spanish lessons in middle school, I was never able to really understand it at the time. I actually guess I had no interest whatsoever in languages. Later, at about 16 years old, I tried to learn Japanese, but gave up after a while thinking that "I'm not smart enough to learn it". At 18, I joined the "cyber world" and learned English thanks to countless hours of IRC and ICQ chats. At 22, I tried again to learn Japanese, but had to drop it again because of my computer programming studies. Finally, at 24, I became serious about it and learned kanji everyday like crazy before entering university to study... Japanese :D
From that point, I became obsessed with it and spent most of my free time learning the language and passed the JLPT1 in 2008 (not that it matters that much, but I was happy to have "reached that level").
At university, we had to take a second Asian language and I chose Korean, just because I liked it. No other reasons. But, as I was dedicated, I was never able to study it.
So, some years passed and I've been in Germany since last year... learning Korean "seriously" since last October. By "seriously", I mean at least "3 hours a day" during weekdays and... more during the weekends.
As I live in Germany, I've also started to learn German one month ago (yeah, I know that's pretty late considering I've been here for almost 10 months). I must say I love German too but as I've to keep on studying Korean, I can only study one hour a day.
And to add a little bit of *spices* to my program, I've started to learn Hindi. The reasons is simple... I live in the same building as some cool Hindi people and I want to be able to converse with them in their languages.
So, as you may guess, I'm pretty busy and I can rest only when I sleep.
Anyway, I'm glad I've finally joined this website. I feel at home here.
One last thing to add, though.
Often, people ask me "Why did you learn / are you learning this language? Do you like the culture? Do you like...". I must say the reply is pretty simple for me: "Just because I love it."
Oh, time to sleep.
Thanks for reading :)
Bonne nuit !
