In addition to the languagues I already know well (Norwegian, English, Spanish):
1. French
2. German
3. Italian
4. Portuguese
5. Hmm... I don't really know; maybe Catalan, Icelandic, Dutch or Latin
I'm just too lazy and lack sufficent interest in the rest of the world to even think about learning a language that is
neither Germanic nor of Latin origin. Of course, love or a fantastic job opportunity could change that.

Can I count biblical and modern Hebrew as one language? Pretty please?
1. German
2. Biblical and modern Hebrew
3. French
4. Russian
5. Spanish
THe above list is, of course, subject to change by the day hour, minute, or....actually I should hurry up and post this before it changes...

The five I am studying:
- Mandarin Chinese
- Japanese
- German
- French
- Spanish
I will die a happy man if I can learn these five languages to an advanced level.
EDIT: Reading over the whole thread, I'm surprised only one other person chose the same five languages as me. I thought it would be a more popular selection, given how useful these languages are.

And LatinoBoy84 would speak all these languages plus Russian, which would probably be my sixth choice (I've already studied it a bit).

I think my opinion has changed somewhat over time... I would say now (not necessarily in any particular order)
1. Hungarian
2. German
3. Swedish
4. Mandarin
5. French
My choices have nothing to do with economics and everything to do with places and cultures I am interested in!

Well, this is a fun first post. If I had to limit myself to only five?
1. Spanish
2. Arabic
3. French
4. Mandarin
5. Russian
This would probably have the best "spread" that I can think of. Except for SE Asia, but I guess seeking out Mandarin and English speakers in that neck of the woods wouldn't be too awful. I guess East Africa would also be a challenge, and Brazil.

I only know US!English, my native language, well. If I could learn any 5 without any other restrictions or acknowledgement of reality:
-Icelandic
-German
-Tibetan
-Tolkein-Elvish
-Finnish
I apparently have no interest in useful languages. In reality- I'm just going to try to learn Icelandic for me, German for school, see how I do with that, and go from there.
