I like the hammer, it's also present in Scandinavian languages :D
But if you don't like it, maybe something from a similar topic? :D

Thanks for the thread, Captain Via Diva!
A meme describing my recent German vocabulary reviews in anki:
name ideas:
Rapunzel, Siegfrid, Faust.
But Rätsel sounds good.
What kind of resources go to the list, online only?

Serpent, I'm not gonna rum away deeply offended if the majority will pick Hammer :) I'd prefer Axt, but that's too evil and destructive :D
Cavesa, ah, virtually any which are not forbidden. I can list my last.fm as a source for music - a certain type of it, or my kinopoisk or IMDB profile as the movies's source (I won't, however, better add it to my contacts). No limits here!
Aaand yes. the meme is correct even for those awesome words - sometimes they are too German to remember)

I'm not fond of "Der Hammer" because it doesn't sound any different from "The hammer" (except for articles, of
course). To me it's way more English than German, and German has a lot of awesome and unique words. |

Der Hammer is a popular German slang expression for saying something is great/cool.
If you watch Breaking Bad in German, Jesse constantly talks about his crystal meth as being Der Hammer. But you could just as well say your German is Der Hammer. It has a slightly self-ironic sound to it. You can't really use the expression without smiling as anyone who uses it knows it's a bit silly. It has this macho sound to it, which is totally undermined by its silliness.
I have no problem if we don't use it as a name, but it sounds quite different in German with the longer Haa sound - so I can't really imagine it as an English word.
There is a long discussion here: http://german.stackexchange.com/questions/11840/various-coll oquial-meanings-of-der-hammer
Apparently you can also say "Und jetzt kommt der Hammer..." to indicate something important/unexpected is about to take place - and in fact can also be used to indicate something is bad/terrible (context is important!). So all-in-all quite a versatile expression.

Glad to be under your leadership, Captain!
As far as the name is concerned, I vote for Rätsel.

Hello, teammates!!
As the newest Newbie, I will of course bring cookies.
And I kind of like Der Hammer--but as I've had to look up what every suggestion meant, I'm thinking I'm not qualified to vote yet.
