I find these to be wonderful books for an early-learner and someone with a limited vocabulary.
I like to go to the library and browse for childrens books in Spanish because often the books are bilingual or available in both Spanish and English and I can read them as paralel texts (sort of) I like to get the Spanish books on tape, and follow along with the story as the tape reads. Childrens stories are often simple in plot, repetitive, have big letters and nice pictures (Yes, I'm an adult, no I dont have any kids and yes, I like books so much that I'll read them whether they're for Grad students or toddlers! My only criteria is that they not be too boring!) Childrens books tend to rhyme also, and even if I dont know a word, I can guess at it because of context. Does anyone else here like to use Childrens books in their studies. It may be lame, but I get a nice sense of accomplishment when I'm able to read a book in its entirety and have understood much of the story, and many (some times all!) of the words. My library doesn't have a good selection of books for readers between 10-18. They have childrens books, learning materials and then some adult novels that are WAY too advanced. Oh, and I dont mean Harry Potter. (He was barely interesting enough in English) I mean books that are thin, paper back and suitable to be read to or by a child.
