My name is Kat and I am a 22 year old native English speaker. Besides languages, I have an interest in culture,
literature, architecture, travel, food, and animation. I have been a member for about two weeks but I have been a
lurker for much longer. I haven't posted until now because I get nervous when introducing myself, even online.
I'm usually afraid that I'll come off really awkward so I have to think things over before posting. I hope this goes
over well.

Before learning any other languages, my first goal is to get better at Korean. I would like to visit my parent's
native country one day. I grew up speaking it but only on a childish level. I managed to still read and pronounce
it very well. I learned as much as I can about the culture through books and internet but I believe the best
cultural experiences come from talking to people and visiting countries.

I took compulsory French and Spanish in middle school and high school but I only learned up to the basics. I'm
surprised that I retained any of it because I found the classes rather ineffective. (grammar before listening and
speaking) I'd like to give those two languages another shot except I'll just find my own way of learning. Right
now I'll have to put these on hold until I feel comfortable with Korean.

Besides Korean, French and Spanish, I would like to learn Italian, German, Japanese, Russian, Cantonese and
Mandarin. I have more languages that I would like to learn but that would be one hell of a list. I'm not saying
that I'll learn every language in the world but I'll learn as humanly possible. I want to go out and travel the world
one day. I know it seems rather lofty but I love the thought of seeing different places and making new friends.
It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid and I'm really serious about making that a reality. It may not be
exactly how I imagined it but I know that I'll be close.

I hope I didn't ramble on too much.

Hello and welcome!
Don't worry about your appearance on this forum, I'm quite ''different'' myself. :P
I was nervous as well the first time, but it'll pass soon. Until now, I haven't recieved any negative comments on any post I made. As long as you treat others with the respect they deserve, you'll be respected as well.

Best of luck in learning Korean, I only once heard a band called ''super junior'' or something like that. They were pretty good.

That's quite the ambition you have there, that many languages will take a long time, but if you're serious you can do it!

There's nothing wrong or strange with wanting to travel.
I'm thinking about making a journey one day to ''find myself''. It's a pretty normal thing.

Nope, you didn't ramble on too much, just look around this forum.
I've seen posts that were humongous!

Now that I look at it, you've joined earlier than I did.

Thanks for the kind words, Remster. I appreciate them. And yes, I agree. Respect does go a long way no matter
how "different" one is. :)

Again, thank you. :) Speaking of Korean music, I'm not too fond of most Korean pop music. I prefer something
along the lines of these:

I guess. I'm hoping to learn most of them before I kick the bucket.

An aspiring polyglot who wants to travel the world?

Around here, you're not as different as you might think. :P

Also, nice to see another person learning Korean for reasons other than K-pop...

I'm sorry for the K-pop comment. :p I can understand it might be annoying when that's the only thing you hear.

I'd like to one day try out Hapkido, which I believe is Korean.
If this becomes a reality, I'll probably add Korean to my list as well, but I first have to learn German and French.
If those two are tackled, I'll probably move on to Korean and Japanese for those reasons like their culture.

Daehan ming guk! Or something along the lines of that.

No worries. It's nothing to apologize about. I get it all the time.

I don't know how far you are on French and German but I'm guessing you won't have too hard of a time since you
have already taken classes. I commend you on considering Korean and Japanese for reasons other than their
media.

Not bad. That's actually correct.

Yay, I got it right. :)
It sounds interesting. I've checked it out and they have an alphabet!
Besides, it's not that difficult as I imagined, that's really funny.
I actually learned more about S-Korea through Hapkido. I'm baffled why I didn't mention that sooner. When I'm older I'm going to start Hapkido, I like it.
The language too, piqued my interest. But first German and French!

(Let me take this time too ask you all to pray or wish the best for the people in
North-Korea. I've heard a gruesome story which made me type this)
