Hello everybody.
My name is Jay and I'm from the Netherlands.
I grew up with the Moroccan-Arabic and Dutch language, and I'm fluent in both even
though my Dutch is better.
To be honest, I've always been interested in languages and since I've got family
pretty much around the world, I thought why not join a language forum?
I speak English quite well, I guess, although I'm far from fluent! I get German,
French, Dutch and English at school, and at home I speak Arabic to my parents.
I taught my self English to be honest, just by listening to music a lot and watching
loads of movies/series. Normally, in the past, I would always need Dutch subtitles when
watching an English movie, but nowadays if I ever feel like watching an English movie,
I'll just watch one online without the Dutch subtitles and I can comprehend everything
quite fine. I can speak basic French and can hold a conversation, but this is because
my two uncles are both French and I've got like 4 French cousins who I get to speak to
regularly.
I'm not so sure on German, though... Last year we went to Köln and I could save myself
asking people basic things but that's basically because my native languages resembles
German a lot. But I'd say I speak French better than German, though.
Anyhow, when registering I had to fill in what my native language is, and I'm not sure
either to be honest, I was born in the Netherlands, my mom's Dutch and my dad's Arabic
and on top of that, I speak it at home.., although my Dutch is like I've said already
much better. What should I do?
Oh, also, I've always been interested in learning Swedish and improving at my French,
I've got no idea but Swedish somehow appeals to me a lot!
Thank you for reading all of this, and nice to meet you all!
