Hello everyone,
I am a 22 year old American culinary student who has just discovered a new passion to
learn languages. I unfortunately am only fluent in English however I can understand
most Tagalog but I cannot speak it.
I love the German language and most of my free time is devoted studying it. I also plan
on studying French when I get to an intermediate level in German. After tackling those
two languages I am leaning on towards learning Swedish, European Spanish or perhaps
Turkish, I'm not entirely sure yet.I decided on using self study through the Colloquial
books, websites and videos. I tried doing college classes but I prefer setting my own
pace and choose my lessons. One of my regrets is not starting serious language learning
earlier so I wouldn't be solate.
Asides from wanting to learn languages and hoping that it would increase career
opportunities, I became a little unnerved with the American stereotype of only knowing
English and being ignorant of the rest of the world. I really wanted to break away from
that stereotype and be much more aware of global affairs and culture. Lastly I would
love to study or work abroad. I know there are many opportunities out there but many of
the programs are very expensive.
Thanks for letting me be part of this great community!

Not going to lie—that's partly the reason I started developing my interest in languages and global affairs as well.
Greetings from another 22-year-old American, who wishes his mother had spoken Tagalog to him...

Greetings also from a Norwegian who would have loved it of her mom spoke Tagalog, or indeed any foreign language to her. I am sure you will love it here. I have become addicted :-)
